Blessing 287 - My Heart Just Dropped


I went out looking for some puddle trees when there was a break in the rain but found none. Instead, I found this raindrop on top of my Durango truck. I imagined it to be a heart drop. But then again, I always see hearts. Niko said that if I IMAGINE hard enough for it to be a heart, then it will be. He such a smart kid! I wonder where he gets it from? =) I praise God for the rain. It brings about beauty that would otherwise never be there.

Blessing 286 - Mug Shot

In this photo, I want to tag my mom Lyn, Elline, Elyssa, Hem, Joy, and myself. These coffee mugs were given by them and we use each mug daily at our home! I just love how others keep my in their thoughts and would lovingly give me a mug that reminded them of me. I think the number one kitchen item that's always in my sink are these mugs! Just goes to show how we love to drink tea, coffee, and juice! I just wanted to remember those who have remembered me. I love each mug and I still have more room for more! Blessing 285 - Clean Your Plate!

Just had some left over Edamame on a plate and no one wanted to finish them. I praise God that we can afford to not eat everything on our plate. We are blessed beyond compare! I know there are so many people in the world that go hungry every single day. We are so fortunate to always have food in our kitchens. So. maybe the next time you still have some great food left on your plate, it won't hurt to to make a clean plate. I'm very thankful for every meal I am given by the loving hands of my Heavenly Father!

Blessing 284 - Christine Leong

I have know Chris ever since I was in High School. Some 30 years later, hehe, we were able to do something together that we absolutely love: Photography! We were privileged to be able to be part of Mateo's first birthday! It was a special day!

After a long day of three important birthday celebrations that I was happy to attend, I came home with my very own "Melanie" album on Facebook! Christine posted some incredible pictures that she took of me. It's not incredible because they were of me, hehe, but because of the awesome talent that God has given Christine! I was speechless with happy tears as I viewed each picture.

I have been posting albums of so many important people and events in my life just this past month, that it was a super blessing to have a great friend do one of me. I have never had my own album. Blessing 283 - I Forgot, But God Never Forgets.

I totally forgot, for the very first time, without even a thought, TO BLOG MY BLESSING yesterday. =( =( =(... Well, just letting know you my whereabouts, I was in the city doing this: Taking pictures of my dear friend, Iris Velasco's 40th birthday, and the city lights! I praise God for a wonderful time of images and blessings with great friends.

I thank God that He never forgets one single thing!

Blessing 282 - Circle of Prayer

Ashley started off their game at the volleyball playoffs with a word of prayer. This was their game yesterday. I just got a phone call from her saying that they just lost their game today in Dublin. So now, they will play in the consolation bracket at the tournament on Saturday. She sounded so disappointed. =(

There are no losers in God's eyes when you do your very best. To acknowledge Him at the onset of every game by praying to Him brings Him more joy than anything! You will be blessed even though the outcome you wanted was totally the opposite of what you were hoping for.

BUMP: You may bump into obstacles along your path, but it doesn't mean that it's a dead end.
SET: Set your affections on things above and those things that have eternal values.
SERVE: Serve the Lord with gladness!

Blessing 280 - Signature Scent

(Yesterday's Fresh Baked Cookies)

Don't you just absolutely love walking into a room when the aroma of freshly baked cookies fills the air? It's so intoxicating! Your senses awakened! You're drawn to pour yourself a cold glass of milk! You imagine dipping that scrumptious cookie into a pool of coolness and into your mouth! Have I got you craving for these cookies? =)

"Signature scents" are used to make you remember a certain person, place, or thing. Celebrities have fragrances named after them. Certain scents automatically causes you to remember memories from the past.

Did you know that incense was used to make one remember to worship God back in the days? But in the present, God uses Christians to be that "signature scent" to the world. So ask yourself this question:

"WHAT DO PEOPLE THINK ABOUT GOD
WHEN THEY ARE AROUND ME?"

Blessing 279 - Sick at Home

This was an old photograph taken a long time ago of Ashley. It's sad how much time flies by so fast before your eyes. She's already as tall as I am at 13. She's home today trying to get better from a cold. Please pray that she gets better. She has tons of homework and a possible volleyball tournament this week! Can't be any prouder of her! She's managed to maintain a great GPA and become one of the team captains on her volleyball team!

Blessing 278 - Work of Art

Niko takes an art class every Friday. I tried encouraging him to paint even outside of class time. Just to make me happy, he willingly prepared this acrylic paints, brushes, and paper canvas on the table outside in our backyard. He dabbled a little here and there, trying to create something out of nothing. Needless to say, he began a work of art but never finished.

"Mom, I don't really feel like painting anymore. May I finish it later?"

It's been 4 days since that day and his painting has been left undone. I'm just glad he even started. It might call for a rainy for Niko to finish what he started. Until then, I will just have to be patient. I promise to take a picture of it when he's finally done!

I praise God that whenever He starts a good work in me, He will be faithful to complete it in me. What an amazing and wonderful God we have! We will never be left "undone"!

Blessing 277 - God's Provision

It's totally amazing how God provides when He is at work to accomplish the blessings He wants to bestow upon us! I had a photo shoot with Kc this afternoon for her 18th birthday. We had a marvelous time! Before meeting up with her, I prayed that my camera and lens would not fail me today. I knew that God would back me up in order for the pictures to be at their best.

He did more than making sure my gears would work at their best potential! Not only did my 50 mm 1.4 lens work all day, but that an awesome backdrop with tasteful props were already set up at my secret brick wall building! A beautiful leather armchair with antique suitcases awaited us! (It was actually another photographer's photo shoot set-up, but he was no where in sight...) So, we took advantage of this awesome blessing! (Big Smile!)

Playing photographer today did not seem like work at all! Praise God for always providing everything we need in order to accomplish great things for Him. I hope the pictures will be a blessing to Kc and her loving family.

And my God will meet all your needs
according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.

Blessing 275 - Bad Hair Day

I found this poor plant quite amusing! Doesn't it look like it's having a "bad hair" day? Haha! Sometimes we find ourselves having a "bad hair" day and we know it goes beyond the hair! Our outlook on a given day may seem all together chaotic or bleak or down right hopeless. We try everything to "fix" our situations only to find dead ends to our solutions. Why not try looking at our "bad hair" days from a different perspective? Have you tried seeing the positive side of things? I bet it will put a smile on your face =)! I bet you will start to feel that life isn't so bad after all. I bet the next time you find a weed plant like the one in this picture you will immediately remember me and start to laugh!

Blessing 274 - God's Favor (Happy Birthday, Pat!)

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

I'm not Irish nor do I believe in luck. But I remembered these beautiful green leaves that I stumbled upon in a botanical garden last year. I've been waiting for this day to finally show you! If you look close enough, you will begin to realize that the leaves have an old familiar shape to them! Who said that hearts have to be red? Not today!!! They shall be green in honor of St. Patrick!

We have a dear friend, by the name of Patrick Lew, and today happens to be his birthday! He is not Irish nor is he anything close to it. He happens to be half Chinese and half Japanese. Happy Birthday, Pat, and may God continually bless you with each new day. May your encouraging ripples reach those who need God's love.

Sometimes things are never what they seem to be. You don't have to be Irish or have a birthday on St. Pat's to celebrate. You don't have to believe in luck to know that you are blessed beyond measure because you have a God who is in complete control. Hearts do not always have to remain red. It's all in how you perceive things.

No human wisdom can truly understand God's sovereignty. We may not understand why our lives are the way they are. Thoughts and feelings can only scratch the surface of God's true persona. Whether you believe that it's by luck, chance, or that you deserved the good fortune that has fallen into your lap, one still cannot fully conclude that you have been given this "pot of gold" because you were lucky. The only thing that my whole heart, mind, and soul can rest upon is the fact that GOD'S FAVOR rests upon His children.

Blessing 273 - Heart of the Day

I noticed that our rain gutter was dripping its droplets of water on this one area in front of my house. The drops of water kept falling on one particular rock. I looked down and saw a familiar shape. Do you see it?

It was no coincidence that the one spot was a heart rock. God continually pours out His love within our hearts so that we can be assured that He will never leave us nor forsake us. His love is everlasting! He will provide for all our needs.

Keep your lives free from the love of money

Blessing 272 - Strawberry Cup Delights

Elyssa and I made 48 of these Strawberry Cup Delights for Tia's 21st Birthday! It was absolutely delightful to bake with a sweet little friend! Who said that discipleship is just about eating God's word? That is a major part of it. But I think it gets sweeter and better when you can share a recipe that can make someone smile! Sharing life (good times and bad) just makes our relationships within God's family more real and satisfying!

Happy Birthday, Tia! I hope you enjoyed your birthday gift! I know who had more than four of these strawberry cup delights at your party! If you didn't get your share, I can make you more! Love you and thank you for being a blessing to all of us! Great ParTI-A!

Blessing 271 - Small Legs

Monta and I took our morning walk in the bright sunshine! It was so nice to see the sun again! I brought my camera along and noticed how cute Monta's short legs were! They instantly made me smile! Don't be fooled by his height. He may be short, but he's fast as a bullet and can play defense pretty well in basketball with Niko! One sweet blessing of having a dog is to hear his little footsteps following me. It really reminds me that where ever I go, God is right there beside me. I may not hear His footsteps, but I am absolutely sure of this presence!

Blessing 270 - Rain, Boots, Patience

I was so ready to take some awesome wonders with my camera toady. I was waiting patiently for the rain to stop. It did for a few minutes. Got my rain boots, slipped them on, opened the door, then a huge downpour instantly happened! How disappointed I was! I didn't even have to look out my window to see if it's still raining for I can hear them pouring above me as they dance on my rooftop.

Today, I am learning how to wait until it's time to act. Most of the time, that's exactly why God wants me to wait in order to receive the best from Him. I see how beauty is more evident when I allow Him to guide the paint brush as He creates His perfect strokes upon my life. I can just envision the careful strokes of colors that God is doing and using! But I must wait.

As for now, these boots will stay nice and dry inside.

God makes all things beautiful in His time.

Blessing 269 - My HemBo

Without a doubt, it was a beautiful day to have breakfast at the Suisun Marina! Bab's Delta Dinner was the place to be! I surprised Hem today by taking her out for an early birthday breakfast gift!

I absolutely LOVE Hem! She has been a breath of fresh air ever since I have known her. She has a big heart for children and the young people! She's determined to finish her nursing program. She' crazy in LOVE with God! She serves God with all her heart! She has everything great going for her!

I know she's been having a pretty busy and hectic schedule lately. It's just so nice to see her have fun today and relaxed for a change! Can you tell???

even though I'm twice her age!

Blessing 268 - Benicia Pier

How good God is for giving me the strength and determination to get out of my comfort zone today. I wasn't at my best today. I woke up with an ear ache and a scratchy throat. I tried to remedy my condition by drinking lots of tea and getting plenty of rest. I actually felt a lot better this afternoon. My Benicia Pier was killing me softly and beckoning me to visit. So I did. I packed up my camera bag, tripod, and Ashley. We caught the sunset right before it disappeared behind the hills. I captured a few sunset moments over the water, a friendly couple walking the pier, and the water under the pier.

A photographer friend has truly motivated and inspired me to think outside the box and to get out of my comfort zone when it comes to capturing an image. This pier picture is a result of that. I truly believe that God causes our paths to cross with others to fine tune us and further His Kingdom. I think my skills are improving each day as God allows me to apply what I am learning. I know as I try to perfect my skills, it will further His Kingdom by pointing others to His beauty and majesty.

Blessing 266 - A Moment In The Rain


A moment in the rain to capture these lovelies was so worth it! As soon as I got out of my car, I noticed them growing wildly in front of my friend's yard. I forgot about everything else, like the coming rain. I then got on my knees and started shooting away. Not until I got the shots I desired, did I decide to come in from the rain. A friend once told me that it takes great patience to get the picture you want. You wait until the image unfolds before your eyes. I love that!

I'm so glad that God isn't finished with me yet. Just like a great photographer, God waits so patiently for us until He gets the perfect picture us. We will never reach perfection until we reach heaven, but He desires for us to strive for excellence. He promises to be with us every step of the way.

So He waits until His Image unfolds within our lives. He waits until we unfold before His eyes. What a vision that must be! Oh, I can't wait! Hehehe...

Dear friends, now we are children of God,
and what we will be has not yet been made known.

Blessing 265 - Yesterday's Sunset

Yesterday, I missed capturing the sunset. Today, a sweet friend of mine sent me this picture of yesterday's sunset that was taken by her phone! Although it's quite small, it's absolutely perfect! It's perfect, because it came from her. How would she have known that I really wanted this moment? She didn't. I believe that God sends his promptings into his children's hearts so that they can bless each other. I just feel so blessed that she took the time to think of me.

Blessing 265 - Healthy Hair =)

I realized that my hair is really starting to get long again and I praise God for this! If I haven't told you yet, I noticed, back in November, a small bold spot on the front right side of my head. I started to panic thinking there could be something terribly wrong with me. I was actually quite embarrassed. My doctor assured me that it wasn't anything life threatening. She told me to take some fish oil tablets and my daily multivitamins. Wow! One day, I noticed that my bold spot started growing new hair sprouts! I was so happy! My hair, in the process, has been growing quite healthy ever since! I have learned that we really have to place on a priority in staying healthy. This was a wake up call for me. Our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. God resides within each of His children. Let's keep our bodies healthy and clean. God lives in us.
Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit,
who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own.

Blessing 264 - Simple Pleasures

I had a cup of tea. I didn't bother using loose tea leaves, but decided to use an ordinary Earl Grey tea bag. Simplicity, in my opinion, is the key to contentment. I focussed on the tea bag and the fuzzy stuff on it's string. For some reason, it was the "fuzzy stuff" that caught my eye and decided that it was the best part of this image. It amazed me that I was able to capture the details on "a string". Nothing significant, you may think, but it's necessary.

I love my morning cup of tea even though I will still have my cup of coffee right after. I love the simple pleasure it gives me to start my day. I love it even more for the lesson God gave me because of it. It was "necessary" for me to enjoy a taste of simplicity ... for it reminded me that my life is blessed today. God will take care of my tomorrows.

"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Blessing 263 - Sunshine Behind the Clouds

After we left Camera West, I was a little down. I was told that my old Canon will soon have to retire. I tried not to think about it too much. I really don't have the money right now to buy the camera that I really need and want (40D). So I will just pray for God to provide. I know that He won't allow me to stop taking pictures. After all, He has called me to do this. I decided to use my old lens. To my surprise, the camera started working again! So I let Niko fiddle around with it. I figured that it will soon be his. He took this picture of me while I was pleasantly distracted by the view in front of me!

I grabbed my Canon from him and look what God gave me:
God wanted to show me that the sun still shines from behind the clouds. Soon, the clouds will disappear. I really love this picture of God's encouragement to me! After all the rainy days, He gave us this beautiful sunny day of hope. I am very hopeful that He will provide for all my needs. In the meantime, I will be content and use what He has given me while it is still working.

Blessing 262 - Aperture In Napa

I was on a photo project to practice my aperture priority mode (the shooting mode of pro outdoor photographers). But the rainy weather did not play in my favor. Elyssa and I decided to find refuge from the wetness inside an old cafe in Napa. Within, we took several shots on Av mode and these two pictures turned out pretty well. What were we exactly trying to accomplish? We wanted to capture a frontal image to be in focus while the background stayed out of focus. Here were the results:

So many things during our drive to Napa were trying to keep us out of focus with the Lord. Distractions, emotions, and even the weather kept us in discontent. We both needed in be in "Av Mode" in order to stay focussed on what was important. After all the distractions, we finally got settled and focussed upon God's word. Praise God!

Even though I was frustrated with the way my camera was performing or not performing, God gave us a lesson about being in focus while everything else around us was out of focus.

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,

Blessing 261 - Garbage Day

Every Tuesday morning
is garbage day on my street.
I noticed that my neighbor across the street had his garbage, recycle, and yard waste bins perfectly organized. I stood there and actually admired them!

Meanwhile, our garbage bins had no such order. We even had an extra garbage bag sitting on top of the bin! Haha! Epic!

I had to laugh at the contrasts between them! I realized that no matter how much we try to "organize" garbage on the outside, it's still going to be "GARBAGE" on the inside! Then I thought to myself ... "Doesn't God look at sin the same way?" There is no such thing as small sin or big sin. There is no such thing as a pretty sin or an ugly sin. There is no difference in an organize sin or a messy sin. It's still sin to God and we cannot camouflage it.

It's "Garbage Day" for me. It's time to throw it out. I can no longer be a slave to it. I am free, therefore, I must live in freedom. Praise God for this reminder.

For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin— because anyone who has died has been freed from sin.

Blessing 260 - The Source of Beauty

It's so easy to compliment and see their beauty and grace at the first glance. They might even bring feelings of happiness upon receiving such richness. They may add a touch of needed color into your mundane existence. Praise them as you will from above...

But their beauty stems from what is truly happening from below. They are well-watered and rooted. They thrive because of their healthy habitat. Their source of strength and life is unlimited.

Can I say the same about myself? Am I well-watered and rooted in God's word? Am I thriving in a healthy Christian habitat? Is my source of strength in God alone? Does my outer beauty reflect Jesus' beauty?

Search me, O God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
See if there is any offensive way in me
and lead me in the way everlasting.
